Book Giveaway! (episode two)

Okay, I'm impatient, so I'm going to start the next givewaway now. :) (No worries--Since I'm starting it over the weekend when most people are probably still asleep, I'll be sure to link to it again later this week.)

This week, up for grabs is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

SYNOPSIS
Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker--his classmate and crush--who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

My (brief) review:
This book is, simply put, amazing. I couldn't put it down; even when I needed a break from Hannah's pain, I kept turning the pages. The story moves at breakneck pace, and Jay Asher is genius at cliffhanger chapters. Clay, the MC, is a smart, relatable guy who doesn't bring a lot of his own baggage to the table, a perfect conduit for Hannah's story. He's also very honest with the reader, never hiding his emotions or his feelings. When I got to his tape, I cried. Those who shy away from books like this shouldn't, because underneath Hannah's story lies something bigger, something that left me with a hopeful smile. If you haven't read this book yet, you must. Odds are, it will change you forever.

+4 already a follower to blog :)

+4 for posting something you did/said as a teen that you wish you could undo/unsay. I once gave my phone number to someone I had met in a chatroom. I felt so guilty that when he called I didn't pick up. A couple weeks later I started getting messages from the local jail when I wasn't home. Finally I picked up the phone once and it was a man (Boy? Guy?) who said that he was lonely and wanted someone to talk to, and his friend had given him my number. His friend was the guy from the internet. I was the ultimate good girl and this shocked the crud out of me. I hung up so fast and never again entered a chatroom or IM with a stranger. Lesson learned. Oh and did I mention that when I talked to the jailed dude it was on my birthday, while I was having a sleepover? Awkward!

+2 for posting a little blurb from (one of) the best/worst nights of your teen years.
Youth group, when the boy I liked pushed his way over to stand by me. Nothing came about, but I remember that thrill of a first crush and having it reciprocated.

Holy crap! That's a lot of ways to win points. Umm...I've heard a lot about this book and am very interested in reading it myself.

Oh, and the best thing that ever happened to me when I was a teenager was this one amazing night where I kissed this boy and he actually called me the next day and it was just one of those Angela Chase/Jordan Catalano moments. Sigh. This is why I write YA.

+2 One of the worst nights for me was my actual "first date." I went to the movies with my boyfriend and some friends and when we got in the theater, he ditched me to go sit in the front with some of his guy friends. I never saw him for the rest of the night. :/

+1 One of my favorite books is The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. She's my favorite author.

+1 I can't wait to read the book Catching Fire - the sequel of The Hunger Games!

+1 I want to read Thirteen Reasons Why because I've read great reviews about it, and the book trailer for it was really good! Also my friend keeps telling me to read it.

+1 Bookworming in the 21st Century referred me.

+2 I regret that my friend and I are not best friends anymore.. ever since she moved away we just stopped talking and hanging out. Now, she's like a stranger to me.

Okay, I can't count up all of my points because my brain is fried, but I just joined your blog.....I found your link on Katie and Sarah Francis' blog, I really, really want to read 13 Reasons Why (I have been dying to read it!) Worst night of teen-age dating=sophomore homecoming with a boy named Greg that I didn't really like but was too nice to flat-out reject.....double dated and the boys started a food fight in the fancy restaurant. Good times.

Something I haven't done? Gone to New Orleans. Something random? My eyes are different color.

I would love to read this!

I am a new follower.

My favorite book right now -- The Vampire Diaries which I am finally reading -- I know, I'm behind the times :-)

The book I'm most looking forward to (among many) is Catching Fire.

I want to read Thirteen Reasons Why because I have read some wonderful reviews of it and it sounds like a really strong and compelling book.

I regret not going to college when I should have so I could have done something more meaningful with my life in the long run!

Something random about me -- my first name is Venus and I was named that by my great-grandfather who was an amateur astronomer.

+1 for telling me your favorite book of the moment would have to be Shawdow Kiss by Richelle Mead. I loved it so much even though the ending was heartbreaking.
+1 I can't wait to read The Hollow by Jessica Verday.
+2 for telling me something you regret doing or wish you would have done: I wish I would've applied to the private schools by parents wanted me to last year because I would do anything at this moment to get out of the crummy public one I'm going to now even if it meant leaving my best friends. But there’s always this year, hopefully.
+1 I can't wait to read 13 Reasons Why because I've heard great things about it.
+1 something random about me is I have this opinion that cold food is way better then warm food most of the time. I know, weird. :)
